How to plan your dream wedding at Rossahilly House & Barn

One of the many benefits of choosing Rossahilly House & Barn as your wedding venue, is the variety of options available to ensure your day is unique and personal to you.

Whether you wish to have a small and intimate wedding ceremony for 40 or less in the beautiful Beckett Room with its ‘Titanic’ fireplace; a reception in the Barn for up to 80 with its wooden beams and hand forged chandeliers; or a luxury marquee overlooking the Lough – perhaps even a combination of all these options? They’re all possible with a little bit of planning – which is where we come in!

Whilst considering Rossahilly House as your venue, there are three principal options to consider:

1. Date of wedding;

2. Number of guests; and

3. Choice of menu.

Luxury marquee:

Wedding Fair (29 of 106)

During the summer months in 2014 & 2015, Rossahilly House provides a specialist marquee in the grounds which, when combined with the Barn, provides the ultimate in flexibility. This allows for a ceremony in the Barn for up to 100 people if desired, followed by dinner and entertainment in the marquee. Alternatively, if the ceremony is being held elsewhere, the Barn may be used to offer guests drinks on arrival. Other possibilities for using the Barn as a chill out area or other use (children, musicians, dance floor, bar etc) are endless. We can even recommend specialist wedding designers who decorate the Barn in a myriad of styles, limited only by your imagination.

Modern marquees are warm, comfortable and elegant – unlike the cold, damp and windswept marquees of days gone by. We currently provide a superb, luxury marquee which may be adapted for each individual wedding. Complete with carpet flooring, interior linings & drapes, centre lighting, a solid glass entrance door and pagoda! We also provide a dance floor, Chiavari chairs, cocktail bar, and heater systems, allowing you to relax during your wedding day.

Please note that from 2016, Rossahilly House will not be providing a marquee but one may be hired through our suppliers subject to a marquee site fee.

Wedding Fair (4 of 106)

At all other times, the Rossahilly Barn is available for both ceremonies and/or receptions. The Barn can comfortably accommodate a formal, seated dinner. This will also allow an area for dancing and bar if required.

If you are holding your ceremony in the Barn beforehand, the optimum number is 80 which allows for the room to be reset for the evening reception. The caterers will require a short time to turn around the Barn for the meal which allows you and your guests to relax and enjoy the views across Lough Erne with champagne and canapes. Should the weather decide not to play ball, there is the option for these to be served in the fabulous Beckett Room which, together with the adjoining conservatory, will easily cater for up to 80. The original log burning fireplace, will ensure a memorable ambience and a comfortable environment for everyone.

Scandinavian tipi’s*:

Wedding Fair (19 of 106)

Atmospheric, spacious, flexible and above all, different. Scandinavian tipi’s (or Kata’s) have many charming traditional features that will create a unique event and leave a lasting impression on you and your guests.

A tipi may be used as a single structure or joined together to create an amazing interior space.

We partner a specialist tipi company who will provide a detailed consultation to ensure complete satisfaction. The options are many but all tipi’s will usually include flooring, lighting, tables, benches, bar, dance floor and stage. Optional extras may also include a specially adapted open fireplace, fairy lights, reindeer skins (just superb!), giant orb chandeliers and many other unusual items to make your wedding unique.

Why not combine tipi hire at Rossahilly House with the creative skills of Event Planners NI, Grace & Saviour or Blue Moon Event Design who will convert the interior to a magical destination – especially for your big day.

*Please note tipi’s may be hired separately from Magnakata and are not included within the Rossahilly House venue fee. The marquee site fee is applicable.

Master Wedding Catering:

The catering is of course, a vital element in your wedding day planning.

In order to provide the highest quality of food and service, Rossahilly House recommends Saddlers of Enniskillen as its preferred caterers for weddings and functions. Their consistent quality of service and professionalism, together with their flexibility and ‘can do’ attitude is why they come highly recommended.

Whether you require a formal six course dinner, hog roast or late night buffet, they can provide it all.

The advantage of partnering Saddlers for wedding catering, is that they may also provide bar facilities with professional waiting staff and service if required.

The variety of options available for weddings at Rossahilly House ensure that your wedding day will be a unique celebration that you have put your own stamp on.

The experience that we can bring in terms of event planning is multiplied by the dedication of both ourselves and our carefully selected professional partners, whether it be caterers or event designers.

How much will my wedding cost?

One of the first questions you will ask when thoughts turn to planning the big day is, “how much will my wedding cost?”

Our experience suggests that when the word ‘wedding’ is mentioned, many suppliers, venues, etc will rub their hands with glee, see dollar signs in their eyes and add an additional wedding supplement on top of their usual fee!

One of the reasons Rossahilly House & Barn entered into wedding functions (apart from the fact that many couples had asked us to do so), was to treat others as we would like to be treated ourselves. Interestingly, as we have made new friends and contacts along the way, we have found that many suppliers share our thoughts. We have found a lovely little community of independent suppliers and service providers who specialise in weddings and special occasions, who are all passionate about providing a service to suit each individual couple that shows off their unique personalities.

Whilst this is great for couples wanting to realise their dream wedding, with so much choice available to make their day unique, it does make matters more difficult to offer a single answer to the question, ‘how much will it all cost?’

At Rossahilly House & Barn, we can only really comment accurately on the cost of hiring the venue. We have therefore ensured that our pricing is transparent, enabling each couple to see clearly, what the individual costs are.

The benefits of this clear pricing policy, is that a bride and groom can decide which items are most important to them and depending upon their preferences, can make their budget stretch further, knowing they have chosen the items that are important to them.

The beauty of booking a private wedding venue is the flexibility and choice that it can provide. The difficulty is deciding which items to choose and being an individual, only you can make that decision.

Hiring the luxury marquee at Rossahilly House, with complete exclusivity (no other weddings, hotel or bar guests in the vicinity!), for 80 people will cost from £1,950 (excluding catering). Anything further is purely optional!

If you would like to discuss your individual requirements with us, please contact us by email: info@rossahillyhouse.com or telephone: 028 6632 0976 and our award winning team would be delighted to help.

Frequently Asked Questions

Every bride and groom wishes their special day to be personal and individual to themselves. Hotel weddings often appear to be little more than a wedding production line offering little individual choice.

Organising your own wedding can seem a little daunting to many at first. It needn’t be!

At Rossahilly House & Barn, we listen carefully to what each couple requires and help to assist them with our network of partners and contacts. Using our vast event planning experience, we can help plan your day, ensuring that it reflects your personality and wishes so that no two weddings at Rossahilly are the same.

We have set out below a typical email enquiry from a prospective couple which answers many frequently asked questions. Of course, each couple is different and we can tailor make each wedding and request to suit each individual. So if these answers aren’t what you’re looking for, please contact us to arrange a wedding consultation (a friendly chat!) and we would be delighted to meet with you and listen to all your thoughts and ideas.

Dear Rossahilly House,

We recently got engaged and are starting to look at a possible venue for our wedding. We have heard great things about Rossahilly and love the look of it from the website – we wondered if you might be able to send us some information about holding our wedding at Rossahilly House & Barn. Apologies in advance for all the questions, slightly excited and trying to think of what we should be asking!

– Could you let us know the cost of hiring Rossahilly for the day for our wedding? We think there will be about 80 guests, but this may change slightly when both sets of parents have had their say! Are there any minimum or maximum numbers?

Rossahilly House & Barn may be hired as a bespoke venue. We have a number of approved caterers who all provide their own unique individual style and flair. The Barn comfortably accommodates up to 80 people for a sit down dinner, luxury barbecue or hog roast. This also allows plenty of room for a bar area and/or a separate dance area for a band or DJ if required.

Whilst our venue hire cost is fixed, the price of each individual wedding will depend upon your individual choices. Menu’s can be tailor made to ensure you receive the best quality food and service and can be prepared to suit all budgets.

For a detailed breakdown of costs for each individual wedding, please contact us to discuss your requirements and we can provide a detailed cost. Alternatively, let us know your budget and we can prepare an individual plan, just for you.

– Could you advise what sort of price we would be looking at for menus and if possible send over some sample menus.

We have a number of recommended catering partners who are National Trust approved or multiple award winners. Depending upon your requirements, these menu’s cost from approximately £55+vat per person and can be individually tailored to ensure you obtain exactly what you require.

– Are we able to bring in our own wine? If so do you charge corkage and if not can you please send over a drinks list.

Our catering partners will run the catering and bar for you. Their drinks list is pretty extensive and reasonably priced. They will provide professional waiting staff to serve your wine. Should you wish to bring your own wine for the meal, a corkage charge may be discussed directly with your caterers who may chill and serve your wine.

– Is it possible to have a pay bar for part of the day? Can you organise this for us?

Yes, as above, they have a very professional cash bar service with excellent staff. This can all be organised for you including obtaining any relevant licenses.

– We think we will have a church wedding, but if we decide against this what notice do we need to give for having a ceremony on site and if so are there any extra charges for this? I assume you have enough chairs for ceremony and meal? What are the chairs like that you provide – we are quite keen on the white spindle ones.

If required, we have the necessary civil ceremony licenses for the Barn and you may even have the ceremony in the gardens if the weather agrees! This will need to be arranged through the Registrar at Fermanagh District Council and we can provide details if required or ask them to contact you with all the relevant forms etc. They do get booked up well in advance so if you decide upon a ceremony at Rossahilly, please do let us/them know as soon as possible. We do charge a small additional fee for set up if a ceremony is held on site. We can arrange chairs and tables for your reception at additional cost, or alternatively, we can provide contact numbers of trusted suppliers for you to make your own choice of chairs and table design to add that extra bit of exclusivity and individuality.

– If it rains (hopefully not!) which area would you recommend for the ceremony, which for drinks and which for the main meal based on us being 100 for the whole day.

Rain! In Fermanagh!!! Surely not! Just in case though – the Barn is a lovely and very unique venue for the ceremony. This can then be re-set up for the evening dinner whilst your guests enjoy drinks and canapes in the gardens overlooking the Lough. In case of inclement weather, we can also offer the Beckett Room and Conservatory for the complimentary tea and coffes which your caterers may provide,  served following your ceremony, often in front of a beautiful log fire. The Beckett Room has recently been re-decorated with the original timber floors now back to their best and it really shows off the beautiful fire surround which was carved by the same person who had carved many of the first class fireplaces on the Titanic and other White Star liners, built at Harland & Wolff.

– Are we allowed extra evening guests?

Yes, absolutely! The maximum we can comfortably accommodate in the Barn is 80 guests for dinner and ceremony with a few additional evening guests. You could even have the Barn decorated as an evening chill out area with the help of our expert wedding designers (see below).

– Do you provide any decoration within the price? do we need any extra decor – if so can you let me know what sort of price this would be and would you arrange this for us or would we need to do this?

The Barn has recently been refurbished and looks fantastic. It is a blank canvas to allow each couple to put their individual stamp on it should they choose, although it also looks great as it is. This ensures a very personal wedding to each couple (no hotel wedding production lines where every wedding is the same here!). This is therefore an individual choice. I would however, strongly recommend both Event Planners NI and Grace & Saviour who can cater for your every whim (and then some). They are both well known to Rossahilly so we can liaise and arrange access once you have discussed your requirements with them.

– On your website it says that you have access from 9am on the day of the wedding. Would we be allowed any earlier access?

Due to the exclusive nature of weddings and events at Rossahilly, earlier access may not be guaranteed as we may have another function prior to your own. We do however encourage our guests to relax and many stay for a few days before/after their wedding. Most people hire the House for a few days before the wedding and this therefore allows unlimited time within the hire period. Many guests hire the House for either three or five nights although there is no obligation to do so.

– Do you offer any help – a wedding planning service as part of the package as we may need help with things like bands, photographers etc. especially if arranging from abroad.

Just let us know what you need. We’re currently assisting weddings for couples based in the US, Canada, UK, Australia and New Zealand. We have excellent contacts.

– Are there any other costs we need to consider apart from hire fee, photographs, possible ceremony, catering and drinks?

Evening entertainment; cake; we’d recommend organised transport for people arriving and departing (we’re currently negotiating best prices for pick up and drop off to local hotels etc); flowers; individual personal touches; otherwise you have it covered.

– And finally what do most people do for accommodation and transport?

The House can comfortably accommodate up to 18 people if required. This is an excellent option for either the bride or grooms family if travelling from afar, otherwise close friends etc. It also has an amazing dining room should you wish to host a pre-wedding dinner the night or so before. We can also provide a list of nearby accommodation including hotels and motels. I’ve mentioned the organised transport above which I thoroughly recommend. There is restricted parking at Rossahilly therefore, arranging transport would be advantageous if guests are coming from afar and negate the need for a walk at the end of the evening.

Thank you so much in advance and apologies for all the questions but just wanting to work out what we need to think of, so any help much appreciated – and an idea of budgets!

No problem at all – we love what we do! Let me know if you require anything further or need to discuss in more detail. Would love to show your parents or friends around if you would like some personal feedback.
